HISTORY

INTRODUCTION

Federation of Ijebu and Remo Students’ Association, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), is an association of students from various parts of Ijebu/Remo divide of Ogun State, which are majorly in Ogun East Senatorial Divide, Ogun State.

The association is made up of over 500 young minds of all parts of the Ijebu nation, who are students of Obafemi Awolowo University,Ile-ife.

The association was formed to foster brotherliness, harmony and a general spirit of cooperation in the context of worthy socio-cultural values of the Yoruba race, and in particular the Ijebu’s. It is to also cater specifically for the overall welfare of students of ijebu descent with in the OAU community.

Our association also undergone a name change. This re-nomenclature happened such that our association which formerly named IJEBU STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION now bears FEDERATION OF IJEBU AND REMO STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION (FIRSA). This change is necessitated by the clarion call for the inclusion of students from Remo and to make them feel a sense of belonging with in the association.

The new “nomen” – FIRSA happened in two stages; firstly, as IJEBU AND REMO STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION (IRSA). Howbeit, due to the pre-existence of another association INTERNATIONAL RELATION STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION with the acronym ‘IRSA’, the need for addition of ‘FEDERATION’ was vital.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The aims and objectives of the association are highlighted as follows:

• Ensuring adequate welfare of all members of the association,by providing foodstuff to members towards examination period, and also by regular and periodic visitations.
• Fostering a better student-lecturer relationship through the organization of fresh menorientation program for newly admitted students.
• Empowering members in the acquisition of various skills through organized programs directed to that course.
• Cushioning the burden of lack of adequate finance by getting scholarships for indigent students of the association on sessional basis.
• Encouraging and promoting the pursuit of academic excellence by awarding students with brilliant academic performances.
